About changing your Filtrete™ vacuum bag

Plan to change the vacuum bag monthly. Check more often if your home is large, if you have children, if there is a lot of foot traffic in your house or if you have pets. When vacuuming new carpet for the first few times, check the bag after each use. New carpet tends to “shed” carpet fiber and can quickly fill a bag. When cleaning fine dust and debris, the filtration through the bag will be reduced. Under these conditions, the bag should be changed more often. If the dirt is above the line printed on the bag, change it immediately. Some vacuum models have a bag change indicator that is activated when the bag becomes full.

About changing your Filtrete™ vacuum filter

This all depends on the type of vacuum and filtration of the model you own. There are several types of filters. HEPA filters should be replaced every six months to maintain peak filtration. Dust cup filters (the filters you can usually see through your dust cup) should be replaced every six months as well. Motor filters should be checked periodically and replaced at least once a year. Again, these are rules of thumb. If you have children, pets, allergies or clean in areas with fine particles, you should replace your filter more frequently.

Changing your Filtrete™ vacuum belt

Belts are rubber and will stretch and wear out. The belt turns the brushroll at thousands of revolutions per minute. The tighter or newer the belt, the better the vacuum will perform. So, it is important to check the belt periodically for any signs of wear that can result from normal use over time. Plan to change the belt every six months. Refer to your owner's manual for detailed instruction on how to replace your cleaner's belt.
